STORIE project – improving the knowledge of rural businesses

The STORIE project, supported by the Erasmus + program, aims to improve the competitiveness of rural businesses in tourism and related sectors between 2018 and 2020. STORIE creates an online training platform and sets guidelines for developing the skills and knowledge of rural businesses. The project aims to support the development of sustainable tourism products based on cultural and intellectual heritage.

The project partnership involves a total of 7 organizations from 5 EU Member States – Croatia, Cyprus, Hungary, Lithuania and Spain – in rural tourism, training, consultancy and research.

Why?

Rural tourism employs around 1 million people directly and indirectly in the European Union. The development of rural tourism can halt emigration from rural areas, help protect the environment, support the preservation of traditional know-how: it is an important tool for preserving and promoting cultural and intellectual heritage and enriching the lives of a significant number of locals and visitors.

At the same time, small rural businesses need to develop more effectively in marketing, stronger local collaboration and product development in order to be able to build a lifelong experience based on the valuable unique endowments of the area. to give to tourists.

About our research

The first step of the project is to assess the training needs of rural businesses. The survey assesses the training needs of rural tourism service providers in order to develop the most effective STORIE training program possible.
